Similar to other narcotic compounds, phenazocine is capable of inducing a reduction of the respiratory rate in animals and in man. This depression of respiration becomes more marked during a state of anaesthesia induced with thiamylal sodium.
The cardiovascular dynamics remain stable during phenazocine administration, although bradycardia develops, which is reversible by anticholinergie drugs. Phenazocine does not possess the histamine-releasing properties associated with meperidine.
